How To Kill Your Sugar Addiction:

1. Eat regularly

You should eat at least three meals, five light meals or two snacks in a day to curb sugar addiction. This is based on the fact that if we do not eat regularly there is a drop in the blood sugar level. We then feel hungry hence increasing our craving for sugary foods for instant energy. Research indicates that this craving slowly becomes addictive just like drug addictions in the end leading to sugar addiction. Eating regularly ensures the blood sugar level is maintained at the physiologically constant level thus limiting our craving for sugary snacks.

2. Always choose whole foods

Whole foods are rich in pure natural components, unlike processed foods that contain refined sugars. Foods that are in their natural form are easily metabolized by the body and cause no metabolic defect to our system. However eating processed food causes metabolic problems to our body and may make us have the urge to consume more in our desire to get energy. Refined sugars are quickly metabolized by the body and this leads to more craving as the body needs energy.

3. Incorporation of proteins and fats in every meal

We all know that our blood sugar levels dictate our craving for sugar. Eating proteins and fats helps to regulate the blood sugar levels. Proteins keep a steady blood sugar level while fats on the other have no significant effect on the blood sugar as compared to carbohydrates. Healthy dietary fats will, therefore, result in a steady blood sugar level and minimize the craving for sugar.

4. Intake of multivitamins, mineral supplements, and Omega-3 fatty acids

Deficiency in nutrients makes the craving for sugar more rampant. Certain nutrients such as vitamin B3, magnesium ions, and chromium takes part in the blood sugar control. Deficiency in such minerals down regulates the blood sugar level leading to more desire to consume sugar as a way of reinstating the blood sugar level.

5. Choose a breakfast composed of proteins, fats, and phytonutrients

Eating breakfast full of carbohydrates and starch has been linked to increasing your cravings for sugar consumption later in the day. Therefore, through eating other food components other than the stimulators’ of sugar consumption can be an effective way to prevent sugar addiction.

6. Try and be open to explore your emotional issue that acts as a booster for sugar intake

It is proven that in the face of depression and other emotional stress, our brain uses more sugar leading to a decrease in the blood sugar level thus the urge to consume more. Knowing our emotional source of sugar addiction is likely to enable us manage it efficiently and avoid cases of sugar addiction due to depression and stress.

7. Get enough sleep

Did you know that lack of adequate sleep could make you a sugar addict? Well, sleep disorder causes our body to get exhausted during the day and when tired sugar is used an energy source to counter the exhaustion. This depletes the sugar in the energy stores and leaves us with the urge for more hence more craving for sugar leading to addiction.

In summary, the techniques mentioned above are the easiest approach on how to kill your sugar addiction that has been on the rise in the recent past. It also helps us to prevent major diseases and boost our immunity to fight diseases.
